GULF STREAM POWER.
The U.S. Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Carderock Division (NSWCCD), under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with Florida Hydro Power and Light (FHPL), will soon begin testing that company’s open center turbine ocean current generator in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Florida. The test will include a connection to the power grid on shore.
According to a press release supplied by the U.S. Navy, the electricity generated by the FHPL technology, if used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, could supply hydrogen at less than $2.00 per kilogram, a goal set by the U.S. Department of Energy.
