WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
According to just released top secret documents in the U.K. from 1973, the U.S., under President Nixon, considered seizing oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi if the Arab oil embargo of that year wasn’t lifted. (Fortunately it was, early in 1974.)
The warning to the U.K. came from Nixon’s (and later President Ford’s) Secretary of Defense James R. Schlesinger to British Ambassador in Washington, Lord Cromer. Cromer quoted Schlesinger in the document as saying “ it was no longer obvious to him that the United States could not use force.” (A double negative makes a positive in that statement.)
Where is James R. Schlesinger now? He’s a member of the Pentagon’s Defense Policy Board.
National Security Aides to Nixon included Richard B. Cheney and Donald H. Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld was also Secretary of Defense for President Gerald Ford and is again in that position for Bush. Cheney was Secretary of Defense under President Ronald Reagan.
The conclusions you draw from this family tree are your own.
