GREEN POWER GROWING.

A new report from Chartwell shows that green power is the second most commonly offered electric utility product of the 19 products and services the market research company asked about in a survey.

In this latest report - Utility Green Power Programs - 43 percent of utilities were offering green power, and 32 percent are planning to. That’s up from 22 percent offering and 24 percent planning in 2001 and 30 percent offering and 32 percent planning in 2002.

However, Chartwell points out that on average the participation rate for green power (those actually buying green power) is only 0.5 percent of utilities’ customers. Yet Chartwell also points out that green power programs are often limited to available supply. Utilities don’t have enough green power capacity in their portfolios to offer it to all customers.

The 50-page report, which includes case studies on green pricing programs by Austin Energy and Niagara Mohawk as well as a study of an Iowa wind farm project involving seven utility cooperatives is available for $295.00. Visit Chartwell at http://www.chartwellinc.com/
