POINTS OF INTEREST.
A weekly collection of websites worth visiting.
Anyone - business or consumer - considering buying renewable energy in the U.S. - or selling it to U.S. customers - needs to bookmark DSIRE, the Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy. The website, developed by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, and managed by the North Carolina Solar Center, offers up-to-date information as to what is available from governments in terms of tax incentives and other programs to encourage more renewables. U.S. federal incentives as well as those from territories are included. http://www.dsireusa.org/
Europe is a congested place and eventually the best locations for land based wind power will be used up. Offshore wind is possible, but not every country has access to the oceans and then locations are limited to relatively shallow waters.
Yet across the Straits of Gibraltar, and a number of miles south, lie the West Saharan coastal plateaus that have some of the best wind resources in the world, and are within reach of Europe’s power grids. The area, too, is not heavily populated.
Sahara Wind is promoting African wind energy for Europe; the website provides extensive information on that possibility. http://www.saharawind.com/
