NEW CLIMATE MODELING TOOL.
As anyone who has studied statistics knows, the larger the statistical sampling the greater accuracy of the results.
A new global climate model for use on supercomputer systems has been developed in Japan that can handle data from 4.4 million collection locations - up from 200,000 from other models. Earth Simulator, developed by National Space Development Agency of Japan, the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute and the Japan Marine Science and Technology Center was completed last year and could eventually be improved to handle data from up to 200 million locations.
Earth Simulator can recreate climate changes occurring over a hundred year period in about three months and will eventually be able to predict rise in temperatures and rainfall with greater precision than with older simulation models. Visit the Earth Simulator at http://www.es.jamstec.go.jp/ .
