WORLD WIND WATCH.

PPM Energy and Clipper Windpower are planning to tap the reliable and unimpeded wind in the Plains state of Iowa for a 43.5 megawatt wind project for the northwest corner of the state. To be known as Flying Cloud, the $50 million project will include 29 GE Wind 1.5 megawatt turbines. All of the power output will be sold to Interstate Power and Light, a subsidiary of Alliant Energy.

PPM, also developing the 50 megawatt Moraine project in Minnesota, plans to bring 2000 megawatts of wind capacity to the market in the next 5-7 years. Visit PPM at http://www.ppmenergy.com/ , Clipper at http://www.clipperwind.com/ .

Community Energy keeps tallying up bulk wind power sales to businesses and organizations...

The World Bank Group’s Washington, D.C. offices will purchase renewable energy that will represent 10 percent of the facilities needs. Of that purchase 60 percent of that will be wind. The sale was made through Pepco Energy Services, a partner of Community Energy.

Sun & Earth, a Norristown, Pennsylvania manufacturer of natural, environmentally-safe household cleaning products, has purchased enough of Community Energy’s New Wind Energy product to supply 100 percent of the company’s production operations. Sun & Earth customers will soon be able to buy cleaning solutions manufactured with wind power.

And Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania will buy wind energy that will cover 10 percent of the campus’s needs. The College will spend $14,000 more per year for the wind energy but will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide the college was responsible for by more than a million pounds per year, along with reducing significant amounts of pollutants each year.
