BIODIESEL FOR BIOCOMPANY.
Dupont, the well-known, world-known chemical company, has set forth a vision to become more environmentally friendly by increasing its use of renewable resources in its operations. Toward this mission, the company, which operates in more than 70 countries, has laid out four goals to be achieved by 2010.
1) Derive 25 percent of its revenues from non-depletable resources, now at 14 percent.
2) Reduce global carbon-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent with 1990 as a base year. (The company claims it has already surpassed this goal with a 68 percent reduction.)
3) Hold energy consumption levels flat using 1990 as a base year.
4) Source 10 percent of the company’s world-wide energy use from renewables in seven years.
The last goal has moved a step closer. Pioneer Hi-Bred International, a subsidiary of Dupont, has announced that it will begin using biodiesel (where it is available) in its entire fleet of more than 300 farm vehicles and trucks. The company, a worldwide developer and supplier of advanced plant genetics, has not stated which blend of biodiesel it will use, such as B-20, 20 percent biodiesel . If the company were to chose B100, Pioneer would realize the full 78-percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions possible with biodiesel. Visit Pioneer at http://www.pioneer.com/ .
