A CORRECTION.
Last week this editor gave the thumbs-up to an effort by ZAP to buy Ford’s Th!nk Mobility division with the result being the continued production of the Th!nk City. This editor made the statement that the City would be a good basis for a fleet of freeway-capable electric vehicles.
A reader who is driving a City on a daily basis - and has accumulated significant hands-on knowledge about the car - suggested that the City not be considered freeway-capable and should not be promoted as such.
The reader has a good point. The City, though advertised as capable of speeds that could be considered legal on a freeway (56 mph), traffic is often much, much faster. Driving considerably slower than traffic is as dangerous as driving considerably faster.
And the City too is a very small car in comparison to the behemoths on the road in the U.S. In short the City, as it is, without further development, would be a good urban car, and that’s about it. ZAP by the way has upped its offer for Th!nk to $13 million from $10 million. Still too low. Visit ZAP at http://www.zapworld.com/ .
