COMBUSTION HYDROGEN.

Cummins Westport would like to prove that transit buses fueled with a blend of 20 percent hydrogen and 80 percent methane (or natural gas) will have reduced oxides of nitrogen emissions compared with those running on natural gas only.

The company will test its theory in the field for three months with two Sunline Transit Agency buses operating on the hydrogen/natural gas (HCNG) mix Cummins Westport dubs Hythane(tm). If all goes well the testing will be expanded to 29 more buses as well as street sweepers.

Aside from testing emissions reductions Cummins Westport feels Hythane will be a cost-effective bridge technology to help develop an early market for hydrogen as a transportation fuel. Visit Cummins Westport. Visit Westport at http://www.cumminswestport.com/
