TH!NK NO MORE?
It seems Ford has decided to shutter its TH!NK Mobility division - maybe. The TH!NK City and other battery electric vehicles planned for sale in the U.S. apparently will not be available. But news from Ford on this issue is still vague. Ford may also try to revive the roots of the company, Pivco, back in its home country of Norway, or sell the division.
Ford has said, through Ballard, that it would like to concentrate on the development of fuel cell and hybrid electric vehicles. Ford’s first hybrid - the Escape SUV Hybrid - should go on sale soon.
On a related note Toyota has now said that it will begin selling hybrid drive components to Nissan begining in 2006, bringing more hybrids to the marketplace. Toyota has sold more than 120,000 Prius hybrids worldwide since its introduction in 1997. Apparently the car is also profitable to Toyota.
