GREENER CARS UK.
Within the next decade 1 in 10 cars sold in the U.K. could be low-carbon vehicles. Under the Powering Future Vehicles program the government plans to set carbon dioxide emission targets for vehicles sold in the country. If the U.K. sticks to this initiative, the switch to low-carbon vehicles may be relatively easy. Some of these vehicles are already on the market - the hybrids and battery electrics - and much of the research and technology needed for even more advanced vehicles such as fuel cell vehicles is already under way. By stepping in late in the game, the U.K. could begin to build a fleet of green vehicles without having to spend a pound on the development of them. Vehicle greenhouse gas emissions amount to 22 percent of the total in the U.K.
