NOT ALWAYS GOOD NEWS.

Don’t always expect to get positive and upbeat news related to renewable energy. In a new report from Ecofys obtained by Reuters but not yet released for publication, the European Union will not meet its self-imposed target of increasing the renewable portion of its electricity supply to 22 percent (double the current level) by 2010. Ecofys expects the 15 nations as a whole to expand renewables by only 50 percent by that time.

But there’s a bright side. Four nations in the EU, Spain, Denmark, The Netherlands and Luxembourg, will meet the target and Germany should get very close. Ecofys claims that guaranteed premium prices to energy providers for renewable energy, or tax breaks for renewables, were the best way to expand renewable energy development. Despite not meeting the voluntary targets, wind and biomass energy is expected to increase substantially in EU nations by 2010. Bookmark Ecofys at http://www.ecofys.com/ .
