RESPONSIBLE EMISSIONS #1.
Every business, every industry, every government entities and all of us have emissions we are responsible for - from beginning to end, from birth till death. Each, with some creativity, can find ways to reduce those emissions and not damage our lifestyle, business, nor the economy.
BMW will be reducing its greenhouse gas emissions at its Spartanburg, South Carolina Plant by using methane gas from a nearby landfill to operate gas turbines to generate power for the plant. Beginning in July the company will build a 9.5 mile gas pipeline from the Palmetto Landfill to the plant with the help of Ameresco and Waste Management, which owns the landfill operation.
Greenhouse gas emissions from using the renewable methane fuel will displace the emissions the equivalent of removing 61,000 cars from the road each year. The project supports the Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) of the U.S. EPA.
