OFFSHORE FUEL CELLS.
Shell Hydrogen has partnered with Aker Kvaener and Statkraft in an effort to build megawatt-class fuel cell generators. The solid oxide fuel cell technology would include equipment to capture carbon dioxide from the reforming of the natural gas into hydrogen to fuel the fuel cell. The high purity carbon dioxide would be sold for industrial purposes, used in applications such as fish farms or sequestered in reservoirs under the sea bed.
The first fuel cell generators could be operating by 2010 and be used to replace gas turbine generating equipment in offshore drilling rigs. The initial investment in a pilot project is $125 million. Visit Shell Hydrogen and http://www.shell.com/hydrogen .
