WORLD WIND WATCH.
Last week this newsletter noted that Vestas Wind Systems was reporting an order for 62 V47- 660 kilowatt turbines from Cannon Power International for the Cabazon Wind Project in California. This week that project is known as Cabazon Pass wind park and has been purchased by Shell Renewables through its Shell WindEnergy business unit. The 41 megawatt wind facility in the San Gorgonio area west of Palm Springs, California will still be built by Cannon and begin supplying power to the grid by August of this year. Power from Cabazon will be sold to the California Department of Water Resources.
Shell is planning to become a major player in the wind energy business and is already involved with or evaluating 3000 megawatts of wind projects for the U.S. and Europe. Visit Shell at http://www.shell.com/ .
Jeumont Industrie of France may be best known for its electromechanical and nuclear power plant equipment, but by 2003 the company expects to see 25 percent of its revenues from the sale of wind turbines and the operation of wind farms.
The company has invested 3 million euros ($2.76 million) in a new wind turbine factory that could produce up to 100 units each year and is offering a 750 kilowatt turbine as its sole product - for now. Jeumont has 50 turbines on order. The company wants to expand its product line and seek new wind turbine markets such as China.
Jeumont Eole, the company’s wind farm division operates six turbines in northern France. Visit Jeumont Industrie at http://www.jeumont-framatome.com/ (click New products.)
