MILES OF SOLAR.
On or about June 1, 2002 PV solar will go into full-fledged, honest-to-goodness, long-dreamed-about, mass production at Bekaert ECD Solar.
Using manufacturing equipment and a process developed by that company, three miles of thin-film solar photovoltaic material per day can be produced - 5 times the rate of previous methods. The 300-foot-long roll-to-roll system moves six rolls of stainless steel material through the multi-chamber machine simultaneously where layers of photo-reactive materials are deposited. Overall, Bekaert ECD Solar will be able to produce up to 30 megawatts of PV solar products each year with the equipment.
Finished products are ECD’s Uni-Solar line that are used in building integrated roofing materials as well as solar modules and battery chargers. The equipment was developed to significantly reduce the cost of solar energy. (Watch this space for announcements from the company for pricing of products made with the new equipment.)
