WORLD WIND WATCH.
West Texas now has 160.5 megawatts of new green power online, enough power for 50,000 average U.S. homes. Desert Sky Wind Farm, once named Indian Mesa and Clear Sky wind farms when under development by the former owner Enron Wind, is now under the ownership of American Electric Power (AEP).
All of the power from the 107, 1.5 megawatt turbines will be sold to City Public Service (CPS) of San Antonio, a municipal utility with more than 560,000 customers in the San Antonio, Texas area.
Desert Sky is near Iraan, Texas, 266 miles west of the city that will buy its power. Visit the wind farm at http://www.desertskywind.com/ .
Ameresco, a 99 percent owner of Montana Wind Harness, has determined after a nine-month study, that its site in Cut Bank, Montana is ripe for the development of a wind farm. Up to 40 turbines (of undetermined capacity) could be installed there. Montana Wind Harness has a contract with Northwestern Energy to build 150 megawatts of wind power on three sites in the state.
