WORLD WIND WATCH.

Endesa Cogeneracion y Renovables (ECYR), a division of Endesa, will build six new wind farms in Spain. To be fully operational by 2005, the combined capacity of the facilities will be more than 230 megawatts using 288 turbines. The 800 kilowatt turbines will be supplied by Made, also a division of Endesa. Visit Endesa at http://www.endesa.es/ .

SeaWest WindPower is seeking buyers for tradable renewable energy tax credits, or green tags, from its Caprock Canyon Winds project in Carson County, Texas. Until April 22 the company is accepting expressions of interest for the green tags and/or long term power purchase contracts up to and including the total output of the facility - up to 500,000 megawatt-hours per year. Visit Seawest at http://www.seawestwindpower.com/ .

The global wind power market is expected to grow at an average of 16 percent each year for the next five years, according to windpower consulting company BTM Consult. At present wind power accounts for less than one percent of the global energy supply, but the anticipated world sales volume (which includes the construction costs of wind farms) is expected to be $37.8 billion in the five year period. Of that, 75-80 percent will be in turbine sales. Visit BTM Consult at http://www.btm.dk/ .

With those sales figures, and the notion that the wind could provide 10 percent of the world’s electricity by 2020, GE Power Systems is moving rapidly ahead with its purchase of Enron Wind. Bankruptcy court has approved the purchase and European Union approval, which will seal the deal, is expected in the next few weeks. Enron Wind currently has a world market share of 13 percent.
